Niagara School Visits Seaway Farms

Welcome St. Michael Catholic School

On Tuesday June 9th, a class from St. Michael Catholic School came to Seaway Farms as part of their class field trip to learn about local food grown here in Niagara.  From the time food is planted, to nurturing it as it grows, to harvesting it, to buying it in our local food stores, and then the most important of all, the time we get to eat it!

They stopped by Sobey’s grocery store to learn about, and sample some food.  After that, it was over to Lakeview Vineyard Equipment for a ride on a very big grape harvester!  Mighty Machines video was watched afterwards where they got to learn more about the machinery used to harvest the vineyards.

Once they finished there, they came over to join us here at Seaway Farms for a little lunch break, and then….

The day of adventure didn’t stop there!

After visiting the garden centre, we took everyone on a greenhouse tour where each child learned about plants while they had a chance to plant their flower pots.  Once that was done, we all had hoped for a tractor ride through the strawberry fields, but the day was just too wet and muddy.  We did, however, talk about how strawberries grow, and everyone got to take home a basket full of some yummy fresh strawberries that were picked from the fields.

Thank you to the teachers who helped coordinate this day:  Mrs. Accursi & Mrs. DiPaola.

Thank you to all the kids in Stevie’s class who came out and made this school field trip so special.
