Hydrangeas

Hydrangeas grow best in moist, well-drained soil. Most hydrangeas benefit from some shade. Avoid planting in open areas where strong winds could break stems. Ensure your plant has good drainage, as if the soil is too wet, the roots may rot resulting in the death of the plant. Come in a variety of colours.


Hardy Ivy Hedera Helix

Woody, evergreen vine commonly used as groundcover or climber. Care: Space 15″ (38cm) apart in moist, fertile soil. Cut back each Spring to desired height. Bright Light. Perennial.


English Ivy Hedera Helix

A striking display of dark green leaves with white veins. The vigorous vines quickly create a dense mass of foliage. FEED: Light liquid fertilizer (withholding during rest period of fall & winter). WATER: Keep soil evenly moist. Mist daily if possible SOIL: All purpose mix. LIGHT: Brigh Temperature Range 10-20 deg C.


Vinca Vine

Growing to a maximum of 12″. Space 12″ apart. Can be used as a ground cover or trailing accent in combination planters. Trim at anytime to control growth. Water & fertilize regularly. LIGHT: Full to Partial shade.


Variegated Swedish Ivy

Cascading stems of soft, velvety, variegated leaves. Decorative on a small table or in hanging basket. FEED: Every 2 weeks with mild liquid fertilizer. WATER: Allow soil to dry slightly between waterings. Mist daily. SOIL: All-purpose mix. LIGHT: Bright Light. 13-21 deg C.


Plantain Lily Hosta 'Frances Williams'

This plant is a green leafy perennial that is often planted in flower gardens that have partial to full shade.  Its small white flower blooms June to July, and it grows 28″ (70cm) high to 64″ (70cm) wide.


Plantain Lily Hosta Albomarginata

Wide green leaves outlined in white.  This shade loving plant will grow 18″ (45cm) high and spread out 44″ (110cm) wide.  It blooms June – July and used in mixed borders.


Plantain Lily Hosta Krossa Regal

Wide leafy and textured leaves offer a later summer bloom (August – September).  Prefers full-partial shard and grows 34″ (85cm) high and 72″ (180cm) wide.  A favourite mixed border plant here in Southern Ontario.


Plantain Lily Hosta 'Sum and Substance'

This green leafy perennial plant blooms between June and August and ideal for partial to full shade areas in a mixed flower garden.  It grows 32″ (80cm) high and 70″ (175cm) wide.


Tulips

Tulips are spring-blooming perennials that grow from bulbs. Depending on the species, tulip plants can be between 4 inches (10 cm) and 28 inches (71 cm) high. The tulip’s large flowers usually bloom on scapes with leaves in a rosette at ground level and a single flowering stalk arising from amongst the leaves.Tulip stems have few leaves.


Phlox

Phlox are a perennial, low-growing plant with a star-shaped bloom. A beautiful, low-maintenance flower that blooms in the Spring and Summer. Their fragrant bouquet attracts butterflies and birds. Phlox like to grow in full to part sun, and loamy soil.


Bachelor Button - Centaurea cyanus

Bachelor’s button an easy-growing perennial with papery flowers atop tall stems. The blooms can be used for cutting and drying. Full to part sun. Grows 1-3 feet high by 1-2 feet wide. Colours are blue, pink, or white. Blooms in Spring and Summer. Low maintenance, good for containers, and Native to Niagara.


Black Eyed Susan - Rudbeckia

Native to Niagara, the black eyed susan is a beautiful. low maintenance flower that can be grown in a variety of soils and conditions. The beautiful golden petal and contrasting dark brown centre sits atop a long green stem and the birds love it! Prefers sun, part sun, is a perennial, and grows 1-20 feet high by up to 3 feet wide.


Cardinal Flower - Lobelia Cardinalis

The Cardinal flower bloom has intense tall spikes that are a brilliant red, named after the red colour of the Roman Catholic cardinal’s robe. Blooms in the summertime and sometimes in the fall; and a good flower for naturalizing Niagara wooded areas and hummingbird gardens.


Cone Flower - Echinacea purpurea

The pure white petal of the “PowWow” is one of the colour varieties of the cone flower. Common colour is the one with pink, purple petals surrounding a cone shaped centre. An sturdy and easy-care perennial that prefers sunny locations. Great for cutting and butterfly gardens. Blooms mid-late summer and early fall. Normal/sand/clay soil. 16-23 inches high and 12-16 inches wide.


Evening Primrose Hypericum Hidcote

Brilliant yellow, pin, or white cups or goblets that are open during the day and quite fragrant. Easy to grow and often found as wild flowers these plants will spread enthusiastically. Blooms in Spring, Summer and Fall. Prefers sun. Grows to be 6″-3 feet high and 8-24 inches wide. Attracts birds. Native to Niagara Region.
